Dr Who, for those who haven’t been paying attention, started today. The new Doctor is a woman! Jodie Whitaker, who I saw in Broadchurch, which has a lot of ex-Who people in associated with it.
I thought it was a good Who episode. Not as much manic running around as we got, especially from Smith and Capaldi and there was an actual stunt where the Doctor jumped from one crane to the other, which seemed pretty dangerous until you realize that, earlier in the episode, she fell several miles from space into a train car, and just got up and fought an alien right away. Timelords are pretty indesctructible during regeneration, I guess.
I’m not sure who Jodie is closest too – maybe Peter Davidson? I don’t think she’s particularly like Davidson, but she’s pretty intense and more open than the most recent Doctor’s were. The outfit is closer to the eighties style than anything so far and she was able to build a sonic screwdriver out of spoons pretty fast, I thought, so very competant. And of course overconfident, bringing along all the companions by accident when she went looking for her TARDIS.
I feel good about the upcoming season.
I then watched the season opener of The Walking Dead, and man, these guys are unable to plan anything, getting a kid killed and a main character almost killed because they didn’t research very well.
